EDP Pub of the week

It is a 16th century pub that has stood the test of time on the banks of the River Yare. The Rushcutters Arms, located on the edge of Norwich, has been a popular choice for people living in Thorpe St Andrew for hundreds of years. And following a £120,000 refurbishment last November its managers say it is now busier than ever.
General managers Ben and Trisha Cooke have helped to transform the business since taking it over almost six years ago. They have turned the pub into a family-friendly establishment that boasts a wide selection of beer and ale, as well as a varied menu.
Mrs Cooke said: “The patio and garden during the summer is what makes the pub stand out. “But also in the past five years
we have really tried to make this
a real family-friendly place to
visit.”
Outside, looking over the River Yare, the pub has a large garden and patio area with around 250 seats for customers. While inside it has made full use of its period features to give it a traditional feel.
Mrs Cooke said part of the refurbishment was to ensure drinkers felt more welcome inside.
To do this they brought in higher tables for people wanting to sit down with a drink rather than just a meal.
She explained: “Before we just had dining tables in front of the bar, and we never had anywhere nice for them to sit without them feeling like they were taking up a table. “But now we have drinkers enjoying this area all the time.”
Later this month the pub is to launch its new summer menu for customers to enjoy as the warm weather comes in.
Mrs Cooke added: “We have full table service on the outside patio now and during the summer it is just like being abroad.”
